Tim Wilk is in his 30th year protecting and serving the people of Southington, Connecticut. Now he is asking for the chance to serve in a new way, as Southington’s voice at the State Capitol.
Tim is in his 30th year of public service to the Southington community. He worked for the Southington Police Department for 25 years, retired as a sergeant in 2021 and continues to serve today as a reserve officer. Tim’s career was defined by being there in the hardest moments of people’s lives and by his ability to meet those moments with calm, compassion and skill.
As an FBI-trained hostage/crisis negotiator, Tim spent years talking people through some of their most challenging times. He served on the Crisis Negotiation Team within the Central Region Emergency Response Team and later led that team. Tim went on to train other officers as an instructor for the FBI's 40-hour crisis negotiation course and he serves as Vice President of the New England Crisis Negotiators Association.
Tim also dedicated himself to the wellbeing of his fellow officers. He served as a peer support member at the Southington Police Department, earned Crisis Intervention Team certification, and taught wellness and suicide prevention to law enforcement officers across the country as a SAFLEO instructor. Tim has also been in the Police Pipes and Drums of Waterbury for 20 years, supporting the law enforcement community at funerals, graduations, retirements, community events and more.
For Tim, public service does not end when the shift does. He volunteers with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Crisis Text Line, bringing the same skills he used as a negotiator to people in their darkest hours. He has dedicated countless hours to Make-A-Wish, serves as a volunteer photographer for Connecticut Special Olympics and is in his fourth-year volunteering at the Travelers Championship.
His commitment to Southington runs through its civic life as well. Tim is Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, a member of the Cable Advisory Board, a Justice of the Peace and a former member of the Conservation Commission. He is an active member of St. Luke’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus, where he continues to volunteer. He is also a small business owner, running Tim Wilk Photography.
Born and raised in New Britain, Tim was shaped by two of the most compassionate, considerate, and generous parents a person could ask for. His father was a career military man who served in the Army and the National Guard. Tim’s mother raised the family before working at Central Connecticut State University. He attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through 12th grade and earned his bachelor’s degree from CCSU.
Tim and his wife Kristen have been married for 26 years and have called Southington home since 2004. Together they’ve raised two sons, Noah and Jameson. Outside of work and volunteering, Tim enjoys exercising with his dog, traveling, sports and photographing the world around him.
Tim hears the same concerns from community members across Southington. Connecticut has become too expensive. He will fight to cut the cost of living, lower electric rates and make state government answer to the people who pay for it. Tim believes government has gotten too big and that influence and decisions belong in the hands of the people. He believes in family values and a strong community. Most of all, he believes in listening. It is a principle he lives by “listen with the intention to understand, not to respond.” That is exactly what he will do as a State Representative.
Tim sees this campaign as an opportunity to represent the voices of all Southington residents. Patient, compassionate, objective and hard-working, Tim has a proven ability to bring people together from both sides of the aisle. He’s spent nearly three decades stepping up for Southington. Now he is ready to do it again. Tim asks for your vote to represent Southington and be your voice as State Representative of the 81st District at the State Capitol.
